  • Has the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) moved forward with increasing the salary basis test for exempt employees?
  • The CROWN Act revisited – can I have a dress code that includes grooming requirements?
  • DOL updated independent contractor test – who now qualifies as an independent contractor?
  • Where is the Federal Trade Commission headed with banning noncompetes?
  • Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) proposes new guidance on workplace harassment – will this expand workplace conduct that is considered illegal harassment?
  • National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) toughens joint employer test – likely increasing the number of working partnerships that will be viewed as joint employers for purposes of various laws and liabilities.

Anne Lavelle
Keynote Speaker: Anne Lavelle graduated law school magna cum laude in 1996 and spent more than two decades counseling clients on every aspect of labor and employment law. In particular, she focused significant attention on the FMLA, ADA, FLSA PPACA, HIPAA and other legislative mandates.  She retired as a partner with a major Pittsburgh corporate law firm in 2018, to spend more time with her family. Anne and her family were honored to receive the Adoptive Family of the Year Award from the State of Pennsylvania. However, her favorite professional duties always involved training seminars for clients. She welcomed the opportunity to join CTR as their Compliance Specialist to bring her passion for public speaking to CTR’s clients, as she provides learning opportunities and seminars to keep CTR’s clients up-to-date on the ever evolving legislative landscape.
David J Baker

Guest Speaker: David J. Baker, the Founder, President and CEO of Human Capital Advisors, has over 35 years of corporate and executive entrepreneurial leadership and business experience spanning multiple industries and functions. He is particularly adept at linking human capital strategy and operations with organizational goals and objectives. His first book, The Everything HR Kit was published in August 2010 by the American Management Association. Prior to forming and launching Human Capital Advisors, Dave established and led the Human Capital Solutions practice for Adams Capital Management, one of the largest venture capital firms in the country. He was accountable for all executive, management and professional assessment, coaching, recruitment and talent programs in the US. He served as the internal HR consultant to the entire portfolio of companies. Services comprised implementing a broad range of HR initiatives including executive coaching, recruitment and selection, compensation, benefits, training, workforce development, and leadership and organization development. Prior to Adams Capital Dave was the Director of Human Resources for ADC Telecommunications in Minneapolis and earlier in his career was the first human resources executive for WQED Communications, home of Mister Rogers, the National Geographic Specials, Project Literacy, The Infinite Voyage, and numerous other national productions. Dave started his career with the Swiss Aerospace company, Contraves Goerz where he was the HR Manager for their Charlotte, North Carolina operations. Dave holds an MA in Human Resource Management from Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA and a BA in Psychology and Industrial Relations from Saint Vincent College. Dave has served on the Board of Directors for McGuire Home, the Pittsburgh Human Resource Association the Marcellus Resource Group and the Pittsburgh Venture Capital Association and other organizations focused on advancing the field of human resource management.

 

He is a frequent speaker on current human capital best practices, including effective executive coaching in dynamic market, metrics and analytics, compliance and litigation, human capital technology, and the impact of changing workforce demographics.

In 2003, Dave was awarded Lifetime Distinction as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) by the Human Resource Certification Institute and in 2014 was awarded the Senior Certified Professional (SCP) designation by the Society of Human Resource Management in Alexandria, Virginia, which recognizes extraordinary leadership within the human resources profession.
