The Anatomy of Hiring and Firing - Examining Real Employment Decisions

Join us in person on Thursday, August 17th, as we work through employment decisions faced by employers.  We will discuss each decision that lead the employer down the path towards litigation and analyze where they went right … or wrong.  Situations that we will review include:

  • Poor employee review due to traits that might be associated with autism.
  • Terminating an employee for private social media posts.
  • Employee “nick-names” such as “half-dead Dave” and “work mom.”
  • Inquiring about plans involving having children or returning from maternity leave.
  • Offering an employee improvement plan to an employee, after the supervisor said she “just wants to divorce” the employee.
  • Firing a male supervisor but retaining the female employee for having an affair.
  • Hiring an employee into an entry level position if the employee has a master's degree and five plus years of experience.
  • Maintaining hiring requirements that involve gender as a bona fide occupational qualification.  
  • We will cover these and other complex employment issues.
